Patent Law

Patent Law is a branch of intellectual property law that deals with the protection of inventions and innovations. It grants inventors exclusive rights to their inventions for a limited period, typically 20 years from the filing date, allowing them to exclude others from making, using, selling, or distributing the patented invention without permission. Patent law aims to encourage innovation by providing inventors with the incentive to invest time and resources into developing new ideas, knowing they have legal protection for their creations. To obtain a patent, the invention must meet specific criteria, including being novel, non-obvious, and useful. Patent law includes various types of patents, such as utility patents for new processes, machines, or compositions of matter, design patents for new, original ornamental designs, and plant patents for new varieties of plants. The enforcement of patent rights can involve litigation, where patent holders seek remedies for infringement, such as damages or injunctions against unauthorized use.
