Fracking

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is a method used to extract oil and natural gas from underground rock formations. The process involves injecting high-pressure fluid—typically a mixture of water, sand, and various chemicals—into the rock to create fractures. This allows the oil or gas to flow more freely to the surface, increasing extraction efficiency. Fracking is commonly used in shale formations where traditional drilling methods are less effective. While it has significantly boosted energy production in some regions, fracking has raised environmental concerns, including potential groundwater contamination, increased seismic activity, and the management of waste fluids.
