Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the Caribbean, east of the Dominican Republic and west of the Virgin Islands. It consists of the main island of Puerto Rico and several smaller islands, including Vieques and Culebra. The capital and largest city is San Juan. Puerto Rico has a unique cultural identity that blends Taíno, Spanish, African, and American influences. While it is governed by its own local laws and has its own constitution, Puerto Rico is subject to U.S. federal law. Residents are U.S. citizens, but they do not have the right to vote in Presidential elections and do not have voting representation in Congress. The economy of Puerto Rico is characterized by manufacturing, services, and tourism. Historically, it has faced economic challenges, including high debt levels, leading to discussions about its political status, including statehood, independence, or maintaining the current territorial status.
